One of the most enjoyable communities to visit in Minnesota
is Grand Marais. This Lake Superior harbor town is the gateway
to the world famous Gunflint Trail and a summer haven for those
seeking a north woods setting. A very convenient place to camp
is the Grand Marais RV Park Campground which is located on the
harbor, just off U.S. Highway 61, and only a few short blocks
from the center of town. Our intent was to use the facility as
a base for sightseeing along this area of the North Shore of
Lake Superior.
The 300 plus unit campground offers a wide variety of campsites
ranging from tent only to those with
full hookups including cable television. Other facilities include
public telephone (with modem hookup) ice, firewood, a camp store,
and modern showers and flush toilets. The cost for our site including
electricity and water was $24.00 (10-99). The facility also offers
daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal rates. There are numerous
shops and restaurants within a few blocks as well as a multitude
of recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hunting, hiking,
tennis, canoeing, sailing, sightseeing, or just plain relaxing.
This area is truly worth the visit.
If you want a friendly place to camp that offers a wide range
of services and is close to some of the most beautiful scenery
in northern Minnesota, SavvyCampers will find this park to their
liking. For more information or reservations, contact the park
office at 218-387-1712.
